Our Misadventures at Round Top Part Deux: Tips & tricks
After lots of blog stalking and some hard learned lessons of our own, we have compiled a handy list of the top ten things we think you should know to make the most of your time at Antiques week.
1. Bring Water!!!!!!!!! Holy cow. I ended each day feeling like old crusty leather and I was guzzlin' water all day.
2. Bring cash. It’s easier to barter and some vendors are cash only. Also if the cell lines are overloaded, the card readers may not work. And in a small town where a hundred thousand people land at once, it’s not uncommon.
3. Wear tennis shoes or other super comfortable shoes. Some of the fields are just pebbles. And the occasional poop pile.
4. Be weather prepared. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and rain boots.
5. Try to plan your day so that you can have a decent lunch and clean restroom access.
6. There is parking at the back of most of the fields so if you have a large truck or trailer this is the best place to land.
7. Bring wet wipes for those times when a restroom may not be available. I can’t stress enough how few and far between restrooms are.
8. All of the vendors will allow you to purchase your items and pick them up later. Keep a list of what you have bought and where. Then at the end of the day just go swoop it all up.
9. A backpack is very helpful when walking the shows that are in fields. And well, Fanny packs are cool also. Just sayin.
10. People can get a bit feisty. Choose to be kind to everyone. Just because.
***Side note.The term
“Spit Swappin” IS REAL. I had read on multiple other blogs that vendors from
the larger Shows such as Marburger Farms shop the week before at the other
venues and then mark up the items to resell. Apparently this is very common and
even expected. I asked many different
vendors and they all concur that it’s just part of the business. So there ya go. I hope we helped to save you some time, some stress, or maybe even your sanity.
Big Southern Hugs,
